All bloggers have the sense, at some point or another, that their blog has begun to grow tired or stale. They struggle to post new content and feel uninspired by the content that they get. Moreover, their fears are legitimized by dropping comment levels and a decrease in visitors to the site. What to do? How can your right the ship and breath newfound inspiration into a blog that has grown stagnant?

There are certainly many different ways to answer this question, and bloggers have take a variety of successful approaches over the years. No matter what you do, however, the key is ultimately to switch something up and diversify your offerings – but to do so without compromising your blog’s unique angle and focus. For example, if you normally write a tech blog purely about Apple products, you do not want to diversify your content by submitting a post that discusses a phone number lookup resource offered only on Samsung phones.

So what, then, can you do? Here are a few suggestions:

Add Video Content

Sometimes a stagnant blog merely reflects that the blogger has a digital age version of writer’s block. Overcoming writer’s block can be difficult when you have a book or an article to write. But if you operate a blog, on the other hand, you have the freedom to seek out other communicative media. Specially, you can diversify by occasionally adding video posts to your blog. Make sure that these posts are no less clear, informative, and professional than your written ones.

Bring In Outside Contributors

I know, I know – it’s your blog and you don’t want to trust anyone else with its content. While this is a valid sentiment, the fact of the matter is that outside contributors will automatically add a diversity of ideas to your existing content. You don’t need to make a long-term commitment to using contributors. But, if you are struggling to add fresh content, you may want to bring in a new voice until you are ready to take full control again.

Seek Out Inspiration

Whether your blog deals with the fashion industry or your day-to-day life, the unique spins and commentary you add to your posts are likely drawn from personal knowledge, opinions, and insight. These sources of fresh content, in turn, are very much determined by your inspiration in life. Sometimes we need to explicitly and actively seek out new inspirations in order to keep our content fresh. Read a new book, watch a new movie, and go to a social engagement that you normally wouldn’t attend. No matter how impersonal your blog, the addition of outside perspectives to your normal routine can only be beneficial on the blogging front.

Hopefully these tips can help you tweak, refocus, and revitalize a blog that has grown stagnant. Doing so is ultimately just as much about the attitude you bring as it is about the content you produce. Diversifying your offerings without upending your overall focus can go a long way towards accomplishing both of these objectives.

Having a well-organized blog can make a huge difference in the ability of your readers to navigate your site quickly and efficiently. Moreover, there are few who will likely disagree that keeping your readers happy is one of the best ways to keep them coming back to your blog. If you’re looking for some ideas on how to make your blog more efficient and better organized for your readers, here are some tips that could help you do so.

Use Pages

Use a page instead of a post for utility content that very rarely changes to help you stay better organised, otherwise it gets pushed down into the archives as you add more posts. Consider making pages for ‘About’, ‘Advertising’, ‘Contact’ or ‘Services’ and place links to them in your header, sidebar or footer so that they are always easily accessed by visitors.

Polish Your Home Page

You’ve probably heard the expression, ‘You only have one chance to make a first impression.’ Well, this can be the case with your blog as well. Your home page is likely where that first impression is made for many of your visitors. Making this space clean, crisp, informative, and attractive can give a great first impression and make it easier for your guests to navigate your site.

Write Descriptive Post Titles

Keeping your post titles clear, concise, and keyword rich can be eye-catching and better inform your readers as to what your posts pertain. Well written titles will also help your blog rank higher and therefore increase highly qualified traffic from search engines.

Don’t Rely on Archives

Don’t rely on monthly archives as your primary means of internal navigation. Monthly archives are useful only if you want to look at the news for a particular month, but if you are looking for posts on a particular subject then they are a usability nightmare.

Be Careful With Category Titles

To make the most of your older posts, consider placing them in categories that fit the subject and inform your readers of what type of posts each category contains. Using obscure category titles like ‘Best Of’, ‘My Favorites’, or ‘Great Stuff Here’ may not be enough to grab your reader’s attention.

Limit the Number of Categories

While categories are a great way to organize your posts, you should avoid having too many categories. A select number of categories can help your readers find what they need, but too many categories can detract from the work you have available to present. 400 categories for 400 titles probably won’t appeal to most readers and is bad usability. You can use tags to create more specific, keyword focussed groups of posts.

Author Names Help

This might seem trivial or could be more of a personal preference, but knowing who wrote an article may help put a reader at ease. A short description of the author’s background and history, even just a name or picture can help your readers and may catch a return visitor’s eye if he or she is searching for a particular author.

Link to Sources

Rather than clogging up your site with articles, posts, pictures, and information copied from other sites, consider linking to other blogs, websites, or other sources you may have cited instead. This can make it easier for visitors to get to areas they are interested in seeing and can be a great way for you to network with other blogs and websites as well.

Stuff the Stuff

Gadgets, widgets, polls, contests and all those little whatnots can be overwhelming and they tend to slow your blog down, which is bad for user experience. A few are fine, but too many can be annoying and distracting and may detract from your visitors easily finding what they need.

Keep it in Line

Again, this might be a personal preference, but I often find it nice to be able scan one side of a blog’s home page and find most of what I need to know about a site. From categories to archives, and from a list of recent posts to a brief blurb about the author or founder, some people just like their ducks in a row when it comes to how a blog is organized.

Tom Walker is a blogger who works for a supplier of HP 338 ink cartridges, refills and other supplies. Subscribe to their blog for more posts about advertising and design.

I recently remembered a highlight about my trip to Manipal University where I was able to interact with Mr. Raviraj, who is a Journalism professor there. It was interesting to know from him that he is trying to train his students on writing for the web. I am no journalist, but I blog Here are a few key differences I noticed about web writing and print writing.

Web Users are active and they suffer from attention defiency syndrome. Click and poof! They are gone forever.

Long article? Send it to your nearest print press, Internet users are the last people you want to show it to.

Building up hype around something? Back it up with proof. Internet is so full of BS that people want to see proof before they buy/apply for anything!

One company that has mastered this art online is BBC. Writing for the web is in itself an art. Check out the recent BBC headlines

Italy buries first quake victims

Mass Thai protest over leadership

Ten arrested in UK anti-terrorism raids

Villagers hurt in West Bank clash

Maximum of 5-6 words and they convey the whole idea about the story. Go to your blog and check how many words do you use on your titles. Incredible use of words in short concise sensible sentences.

So, what can you as a blogger or freelance internet writer can do to keep the visitors on your page?

I used to do heavy article marketing for a few of my niche sites and the following is what I learnt about writing for the netizens.

Write with the questions – “What, How, where next?” in mind.

Make it lively. Humour, Satire, fun facts.

Beyond this, the usual web writing rules like Keep it short, Posts with Lists and the usual apply. When was the last time you checked out your writing?

Why Massive Scaled up Niche Websites? What is the Strategy, boss?

I currently have..err..so many of them that I dnt even remember how many, I get this question like everyday. Every other person I meet usually decides to start with one massive site with everything from Apples to Zebras, and I quitely smile to myself and try to explain that its not just right to do so.

I was there once. I had a site on paper which tried to do everything. The main reasons being that I did not have the cash to buy new domains or the resources to host so many of them. But time proved me wrong and then I began to diversify. Here are the reasons why I moved from a single site for all niches to single site per laser target niche.

Audience – Its difficult to get an audience without focus. Someone might like your recipes category, but not your financial advice section.

Conversion – When you laser target your niche with the Keyword Sniping concept by Court or other strategies, it converts at amazing percentile.

Search Engine Advantage – While big sites like Wikipedia, yahoo answers or content based sites like sify or others have managed to get the top rankings for their umpteen niches, but they came from content contributed by masses, so if you are alone, laser focus your readers.

Monetizing – Different niches need different niche strategies. Trust me, an ad placement for a female audience niche is never same as that of a male dominated search topic. (Hint: Handbags and used jet skis).

And the fifth and my own personal favorite – You never do it one at a time, all your eggs in one basket? No way!

5 Reasons Why You Should Diversify Your Websites

So, how do I do it?For one, I am always mentally prepared to write content for my blogs as I know my niches well and I get ideas for posts mostly in the shower or in a place where I have no internet access. I use my mobile to jot in content ideas and sync them up. And two, I have a fairly good typing speeds of 65 wpm. So, lets start off!

1. Open up Google or your favourite article source site and search for the topic you are going to write about. Open up 3-5 pages.

2. I usually use notepad for this, but a pen and paper should do just fine. Scan through the 5 articles and get and overview of what you are going to write about. Put in 3-4 points which you think are important in your article on the notepad.

3. Each of my articles are structured as my english teacher at school taught me.

Introduction

Brief 3-4 points that will be covered on this article

1 paragraph per point

Closing summary and call to action

Introduction is all about reeling attention of the reader. Start with a question mark or a weird fact or something that will get the reader baited to the article. Remember, the average internet users attention span is lower than that of a monkey (weird fact, but true).

Brief point based introduction: NextI cover the basics of three points of what I am going to write about. Sometimes in bulleted points, sometimes in a paragraph.

Expand: The points are then covered in depth with about 75-100 words each.

Closing Summary: It usually trails off with a “So, that is all that you wanted to know about <niche>” and then you put in a call for action.

Call for Action: Something every article writer/blogger should know, but do not. Its all about action. What do you want your readers to do? Do you want them to signup to your affiliate program? Visit your site? Comment on your masterpeice? Opt-in to your list? Call for it, and you just made it happen. Most people want to be told what they want to do next, physchologically, so, use it to your advantage.

And at the end of this, I have an awesome 400-500 word blog post to use on my blog or for my article marketing. It works for me, so should work for you guys too Do let me know if it help you to write an article in 15 minutes.

After the first 60 minutes of meeting anyone up, I would ask them to blog. I keep meeting up a whole diverse set of people including Martial Arts teachers, working professionals and college students. Everyone asks “Why should I blog?“.

Even if you are a nobody today online or offline, you have to get your own domain and put up at least a resume on it!

But what do I blog about?!

Anything, are you a martial arts kickass’er? Put up pictures of your poses and write about the advantages of kicking ass and all that. A working professional? Write about your job profile. A php programmer? Put up a post each time you solve an error on php. Its a knowledgebase for you and helpful content for other programmers out there. An entrepreneur? Put up posts on how to get started, what are the legal troubles you went through in your industry. Anything! Housewife? Experiments in the kitchen, raising kids and “How to change a baby’s diaper” videos! You get the idea?

A blog is your identity, a piece of you online that that one can log on. Even if you end up loosing that job of yours, you have enough stuff on your blog that would make your next employer proud! If you have a community of loving people around your blog, you might become what Matt Cutts is to Google. A spokesperson of the corporate, the online face of your company. The possibilities are endless.

The current evolution of the Internet as I see it is – You. You are the brand online, its not companies, but individuals like you. You 2.0

So, blog up! (Barney Stinson Style)

Its very important to have your blogging milestones set before you start off blogging – thats what theory says. Unfortunately, I or anyone is rarely guided by people while starting off. After about 3 years of Blogging (4 years, If manually updating html pages everyday can be considered blogging) , here is what I think is the best way to start with your blogging milestones.

And while monetization comes in the later parts, this will probably answers your questions on making a living from a blog

First 6 months: Grab as many keyword posts as you can. does not matter if you are not rank instantly, but just target really good keyword with constant traffic in your niche. Don’t even dream about getting comments on your posts at this time and have a constant rhythm of posts with hot keywords. As your blog gets older, they will get the authority and ranking they deserve.

6 Months – 1 Year: Keep posting your hot keyword articles, plus add to the to-do list 3 items called “Guest-Blogging” and “Link Exchanges” and “Comment Exchanges”. Guest-Blogging with top bloggers in your niche. Link Exchanges with blogs on one step higher then yours. Comment Exchanges usually happens with time. You find a few nice bloggers who comment on your blog, you comment back on their and hence forth.

1-2 years: This is when you get really active and now its time to work on your “bragging” stats. RSS readers, Pagerank, little of network Ads, Private Advertisers and now your initial keyword articles matures and start to bring in good traffic. Concentrate on getting a community around your blog, a cult of followers who will kill at your will.

2+ years: If you religiously followed all the above tips, you are now possibly a super blogger! Time to post about your dinner last week at a hot resturant and pictures of you wearing T-shirts of various companies and even turn off comments to really boost RSS numbers and backlinks. Now you no longer need my advice as you have been there and don’t that. Your turn to mentor smaller bloggers like me!

Do share in your tips about blogging, something which you wished you know before you started off blogging.

Its a creative world outside!!! I know Joseph Thomas as a blogger and met him through the BlogCamp Kerala in August. What really caught my attention was a recent newspaper article about him in a national newspaper. He is the founder of Blogswara, which is a interesting mix of audio-blogging.

What is blogswara?

Blogswara is an internet music community which acts as a common platform for musicians (a majority of whom are amateurs) to showcase their talent before the world by producing original music and share it over the internet.

It is a collection of impressive fresh voices. Here is a teaser of the songs I found on the official blogswara site. I loved it! Their 5th album is due for release this week, and there is about 14 songs in the album.

And you do not have to go searching in torrents to get these MP3s, they are free to download Have you seen any interesting mix of blogging with something recently?

Recently I had a chance to check up on my friends blog to edit his theme a bit. I was taken aback with this bloggers design. He has two different plugins for social bookmarking, his each post had some 7-10 tags, 2 sets of related posts and a rss subscription options and luckily no ads.

That got me thinking, what do you want your readers to do after reading a post in your blog? Initially my aim was to increase rss subscribers which saw my subscribers catapult from 200s to the present 800s range. I have also added adsense to some of my posts in the footer recently.

Each visitor to your site is very important. Like a well built sales page, converting them to your advantage is very important. Have an idea of what of you want, then build your design around it. A few things you might want your readers to do after reading your article:

Subscribe to your feeds

Click on your ads

Explore more pages in you blog

Buy your services/products

Submit your site to Social Media

Comment on the post

I would suggest concentrating on a maximum of 2 goals initially. So, what does your post footer look like?
