A reproduced conversation I had with a HCL Laptop Customer Care lady on phone today.

Lady: Hello, I am lady calling from HCL Laptops from Delhi, Can I speak to Anand Subramanian?

Me: Speaking.

Lady: This is with regard to a query you had posted on our websites about the purchase of a laptop.

Me(trying to remember): mmm, yes?

Lady: So sir, have you purchased a HCL laptop already?

Me: mmm, No, I have purchased a Dell XPS . . .

This post is pretty late considering the fact that the the laptop came home on July 4th 2008. I was pretty much locked on to the DELL when I wanted to choose a laptop and the only problem was choosing the model I wanted. With the help of their Sales dudes, I zeroed in to Vostro 1400, Inspiron 1525 and the XPS M1330. And backed by dads assurances, I locked with the DELL XPS M1330.

For the past month, I finally accepted the fact that I need a laptop. My aversion to laptops started from the day I first saw it, a black and white screen with DOS installed. Since then, I always thought laptops were below desktops in terms of power and ergonomics. But now, I am faced with no other choice but to join the masses owning a laptop and leave the depleting desktop lovers clan

Can anyone suggest me a decent laptop with decent performance? My price range is in the neighborhood of 1000$ or 40k INR. I am almost decided on the Dell XPS M1330 for now since its got decent specs and comes in my price bracket too. What do you think?
