Its here. The biggest unconference in Kerala is back with the 8th edition. BarCamp Kerala(8) is at MACFAST, Thiruvala on March 28th, 2010.

For those of you who don’t know what a BarCamp is…

BarCamp is an international network of user generated conferences – open, participatory workshop-events, whose content is provided by participants – often focusing on early-stage web applications, and related open source technologies, social protocols, and open data formats.

It is one of those conferences where you see youngsters, geeks, technophiles and everyone else come together in a single stage to share their views on pretty much everything! If you plan to come to the event, let me know and lets catch up!

Its BarCamp time again in Kerala We are holding BarCamp Kerala 7 on 20th of December 2009! BarCamp Kerala is the biggest and coolest techy event in Kerala.

Hearing the word ‘barcamp’ for the first time?

BarCamp is an ad-hoc gathering born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. It is an intense event with discussions, demos and interaction from participants who are the main actors of the event

Venue

BarCamp Kerala 7 will be held at Kristu Jyoti College of Management and Technology, Chetipuzha, Changanassery, Kottayam. More details are available at the venue page

The biggest democrazy(not a typo), India goes to poll starting tomorrow. Elections have always been a cause of celebrations, ugly mud slinging and great entertainment in our country and specially in my state of Kerala. From parties whose manifesto contains assurances that they will stop people from talking english and protest the usage of technology and internet(I know, LAME!) to parties who use it a bit too much by spending 2500 Million Rupees ($50 Million) of  money on online adwords campaigns(Mr. L.K Advani, or as we bloggers call Mr. “Ad”Vani), its a total carnival here in the sub-continent.

The fifth BarCampKerala meetup of the year is so on! Kerala’s biggest tech meetup is scheduled on 3rd May 2009 at Technopark, Trivandrum. What BarCampKerala is all about?

BarCampKerala is an ad-hoc gathering rooted in the desire to share and learn in an open & friendly environment. It is an intense yet cool, event with discussions, demos, and strong interactions.

BarCampKerala is your best chance to meetup all the coolest techies from Kerala. If you are a techie of any scale, do make it to BarCampKerala!

Our good friends at Amvizone are attempting to bring the movie awards to the Internet. It is a refreshing change from the usual movie awards where nothing is transparent and the masses get to say almost nothing about who wins the awards. The system is impressive and has been getting a great response from the film enthusiasts in Kerala. But I am kinda sad about Pritviraj not in the top of Best Actor Awards.

Go visit the site and vote of Pritviraj now!! And if you are a blogger, spread the word and let your favorite star win. The Kerala movie industry being very small needs all the support it can to thrive.

The 4th edition of BarCamp Kerala has been announced!!! The best part I liked about this BarCamp is that it is going to be conducted in IIM-K, which is in Calicut!!! Finally my personal dream of taking BarCamp to Malabar has been achieved!! Why? I did most of my schooling in Rani Public School, Vadakara and hence have a emotional attachment to the place. ;)

I will be making it there and hopefully my presentation on world’s best CMS – WordPress will be completed by then, unlike last time.

Finally after a rocking BlogCamp Kerala, its time for a BarCamp Kerala now. This is the third BarCamp in Kerala. For those you asking what is barcamp?

BarCamp is an ad-hoc gathering born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. It is an intense event with discussions, demos and interaction from participants.

And as all BarCamps, this will be a unconference. Something that will go against every rule of a normal conference. No boring long speeches, no boring presentations and sit still talks. At unconferences you are supposed to:

Last week BlogCamp Kerala was on news again, this time on ‘The Hindu’. What started as a small unconference took a life of its own teaching me the fact that ideas take a life of their own once initiated. With less than 2 weeks to go for the Kerala’s first unconference blogging event, things are shaping out really well. We had a trip to the venue last weekend and the pictures are now live at the official site.

Also, in case you are an outstation bloggers and are looking for a place to stay overnight or the night before the event, do get in touch with me so that we can see if its possible to arrange accomodation for you.

Coming back from a short blogcation(a brief period of vacation from blogging), I am getting back to the groove of things. If you remember, I was thinking of a BlogCamp in Kerala with a few fellow bloggers in Kerala. Things got on track and it is now a reality. BlogCamp Kerala is coming this August 16th at a Houseboat in Alleppey, Kerala.

I am really amazed at what has come out of a small discussion and the idea took a life of its own and we even managed to rope in Kerala Tourism (Kerala Govt.) as a platinum sponsor for the Keralas’ first “Blog Unconference”. Goes a long way to say what willpower can do.

Its been quite a while since Kerala got its private radio stations and Cochin is the last city to join the party. I never thought radio was boring since its quite an engaging thing while driving or while just taking a rest at the couch. I usually tune into the All India Radio once in a while in the evenings where Rainbow FM plays the latest hindi tracks and the RJ’s are pretty cool too. If you looking for the stations in Cochin now, this post by Mahesh will help.

BlogCamps are fun! Not that I have been to any. Judging from how the recent barcamp went, it seems that BlogCamp will be hell lot of fun!

The concept of barcamps, meetups and unconferences are slowly catching pace in Kerala judging the crowd at the past 3 barcamps and junior barcamps. Funnily enough, my spell checker says barcamps, meetups and unconferences are not dictionary words. Heck, even blog is not a word in my spell checker!

I was wondering how to reach all the bloggers and to inform them about the event. One list acclaimed by many is the Kerala Blog Roll. Anyone knows any other directories where bloggers can be reached?
