yahoo-geocitiesI was kinda shocked to hear this when I first read it on a tweet link. Then I rushed over to Mashable to confirm the news. It sadly is for real. If you started off online in the 90s, you would have certainly heard/used geocities, the free hosting site with a really simple interface.

Though I love Yahoo! for all its work online, there are a few times when Yahoo! gives problems too :) Since yesterday when I installed the Miscrosoft Visual Studio Express, I was not able to login to the messenger. It was giving me a error called 81003004 and told me to try again later. Trying it again after 12 hours, it was still giving me that error, meaning something else was wrong.

The solution?

Goto Connection  Prefrences and use a http proxy. It helped!!!

Hope this helps! Let me know if you know of any other workaround for this login error on yahoo messenger.

Yahoo! MakeoversI wish I had some cash to buy Yahoo! Stocks now! They have been seriously busy since they launched the all new Yahoo! Mail beta sometime back. I track Yahoo! very religiously since I love Yahoo! as a responsible corporation. I was one of those who did not want to see a Micro-hoo! ;)

Recently Yahoo! started off its makeover spree with the all new Yahoo! homepage. It is only being phased into for international users yet, so your next bet at a perfect homepage is My Yahoo! which also recently went through a facelift. I fell in love at first look with the ability to add tabs and page tabs to organize your stuff.

When my latest princess came home, I was in a fix as to how to move my chat history from one computer to another retaining all the precious archives and messages I sent and received on the PC for over 3 years now :)

After a while of searching, I was not able to find proper solution for this thing except bits and pieces of what I wanted to do. How to transfer chat history or message archive from one computer to another.

  1. Exit Yahoo Messenger if you are using it. (Just to be safe)
  2. Go to: C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\Profiles

I am trying to redesign my homepage at the moment and in the process applying my new found skills with PHP. :) One thing I put in on all the versions of my homepage is a online status indicator with Yahoo! so that people can contact me directly and have their bricks on my face. Usually I go with the normal script code Yahoo! with their default images for online and offline statuses. But this time, I wanted to display custom images for my online and offline status indicators.

Recently Yahoo! claimed that they have managed to stop all Ebay and Paypal spam emails sometime early this month. I always thought Yahoo! had a great technology for stopping spam and they have some cool technology like DomainKeys and stuff like that. Today I got a email saying that my Paypal needs verification. Here is a screenshot:

So, Whats going on Yahoo! ? Can I trust your emails?

Sometime back I unknowingly hid a member of my MyBlogLog Community from appearing in my recent visitors list. Later on, I felt bad about it and was looking for a way to restore/unblock that person’s face on mybloglog faces. But thanks to the great documentation of the MyBlogLog site and wonderfully helpful blog they have, it took me months to find out how to do it.

  • First login to your account, and click on the home tab on the top.
  • Then click the Edit settings of the site in which you want to unhide the user from.

Are you the #1 out there? I am usually asking this since I have seen a few #1′s being toppled off by others. These new #1′s are then toppled by others and so on. It is usually very easy to target the numero uno and try to overtake them. But staying at the top is pretty difficult since you have to do things done by none, you have no guiding light and have to tread ways untread paths.

Recently this tagging game has been doing the rounds. I was tagged by Venu. So here are some random stuff from TheAnand!

  1. I am a Internet addict. I am usually online for more than 12 hrs a day. Usually surfing around, reading and learing stuff.
  2. I was never interested in studying at school. But when I passed out from School, I was the School Topper in Computer Science. :-) While in Math I scraped through, Computers comes naturally for me
  3. I used to have suicidal tendencies, pre high school.

Here are a few more options to search for what you want in the new Yahoo! Mail Beta. This is a follow up post to my earlier post about advanced search in the new Yahoo! Mail.

Attachment file types

Example: Search for jpeg attachments.

attachmenttype:jpg

Attachment file types, not from certain senders

Example: Search for jpeg attachments that aren’t from Sally.

attachmenttype:jpg -from:Sally
attachmenttype:(file type)(space)(hyphen)from:person

You’re telling Yahoo! Mail to search for .jpg attachments, minus any
from Sally.

Attachments with specific words in attachment name

Example: Search for an attachment with ‘Rafting’ in the attachment name.

ymail-champ.jpgI have been using my Yahoo! Mail account since the late 90′s and am sort of a fan to their new Yahoo! Mail beta, which is a AJAX powered mailbox meaning you will never have page loads again! I agree it is sort of cranky in the slower connections, but with my Airtel Broadband power, impossible is nothing (Yea, I worked in Airtel, so am biased!).

 Well, its time! Seriously.

I think its time we call internet as Google, considering the amount of influence they have on internet and its users now. With the acquisition of Feedburner last week, Google has totally taken close to full control over how we receive information to our computer. The search, the emails, the RSS reader, the feed channel, traffic statistics, online advertising, social networking, blogs, firefox :?: and host of other services. How can this affect us?

Logging into my favorite mail service, Yahoo! gave me a pleasant surprise, the yahoo mail and messenger integration. I have not used it yet, it feels strangely different to use a chat client with a browser, but I had pleasant experiences with their new web messenger, so this should be cool!

It definitely looks better than the gmail chat, which intrudes my privacy with all those context based ads. And hotmail live which seems to be a bit heavy even for broadband!

Yahoooooo! :-)

I just noticed. The all new fresh and cool Yahoo! Web Messenger.I never really used it except for a few times some years back. I was a faithful user of Trillian, then switched to MSN Messenger when the inter-chat between Yahoo! and MSN was announced, mainly cause I was lazy to download the Yahoo! Messenger or Trillian. MSN came built-in with my XP. But then, being biased with Yahoo! I returned to their desktop client soon. But recently I logged into their Web based Messenger and I was shocked! It looks so AWESOME!

This is what I found on the official blog of the Yahoo! Mail Beta. It looks like Yahoo! has started integrating the Yahoo! Mail and Messenger into its new Yahoo! Mail Beta. If you are not using the all new Yahoo! yet, you should read my earlier post about how to get invited to the beta Yahoo! Mail.

The new integration looks awesome and definitely got me hooked since I now use the Trillian Messenger for my chat. This new combination of Mail and Messenger of Yahoo! is already implemented by Google for its GMail and GTalk applications. But the Yahoo! has done things sleek and sexy if I may say so! It is a very much blended look and it now has the feel and look of a desktop on a browser.

If you have not got into the new Yahoo! Mail Beta yet, now is the best time to do it. It is a very hip and rocking mail client, very different from anything provided by anyone. Here is a cool tip to get your self into the new beta with a little bit of hacking.;-)This is a cool little trick by which you can Join Yahoo Beta, without an invitation1. log in to your yahoo mail account2. on the top left, besides mail button, there is one down arrow, click there…3. go to option

4. on the left panel, click on account information
