Its very important to have your blogging milestones set before you start off blogging – thats what theory says. Unfortunately, I or anyone is rarely guided by people while starting off. After about 3 years of Blogging (4 years, If manually updating html pages everyday can be considered blogging) 😉 , here is what I think is the best way to start with your blogging milestones.
And while monetization comes in the later parts, this will probably answers your questions on making a living from a blog
- First 6 months: Grab as many keyword posts as you can. does not matter if you are not rank instantly, but just target really good keyword with constant traffic in your niche. Don’t even dream about getting comments on your posts at this time and have a constant rhythm of posts with hot keywords. As your blog gets older, they will get the authority and ranking they deserve.
- 6 Months – 1 Year: Keep posting your hot keyword articles, plus add to the to-do list 3 items called “Guest-Blogging” and “Link Exchanges” and “Comment Exchanges”. Guest-Blogging with top bloggers in your niche. Link Exchanges with blogs on one step higher then yours. Comment Exchanges usually happens with time. You find a few nice bloggers who comment on your blog, you comment back on their and hence forth.
- 1-2 years: This is when you get really active and now its time to work on your “bragging” stats. RSS readers, Pagerank, little of network Ads, Private Advertisers and now your initial keyword articles matures and start to bring in good traffic. Concentrate on getting a community around your blog, a cult of followers who will kill at your will.
- 2+ years: If you religiously followed all the above tips, you are now possibly a super blogger! Time to post about your dinner last week at a hot resturant and pictures of you wearing T-shirts of various companies and even turn off comments to really boost RSS numbers and backlinks. Now you no longer need my advice as you have been there and don’t that. 😛 Your turn to mentor smaller bloggers like me!
Do share in your tips about blogging, something which you wished you know before you started off blogging.
