Kerala Roads: Enter at your own risk!

<!–RANT starts here–>

Today I had a trip from my home in Cochin, to my family temple at Peruvambu, near Palghat. The trip was around 200Kms in total, a journey that should have been a breeze in about 5-7 hours took a gruelling 9 hours in total and my backbone is like the suspension of a fully loaded trucker, all bended up and sprained 🙁

Where do I start? There was literally no roads on the way. In places where the roads were supposed to be, it was nothing but potholes of the size of a car and all over the road for more than 100kms of the way. The progress is like 20kms an hour! And the holes? Nope, they are not the ones you usually encounter on the roads here. Its like about 50cms deep and the size of a full hatchback car! I have videos coming up soon in a few days.

TheAnand’s Web Designer blog rants about the condition of roads in Cochin and Kerala as a whole.

Calling roads here a mess is a full blown outright insult to the word mess.

The best way to travel around on Kerala roads, will be to have a Hummer or a real 4×4 and experience the off road conditions here on road. So, you get to see what off the road looks like on the road. Get what I mean?

Who is to blame?

I am not biased to any party or any kind of flag for that matter. But I can vouch that this is the worst non-performing government Kerala has ever had and hopefully ever will. I mean, what is Mr. Achuthanandan doing? I don’t really care if you saved 1.5 inches of land from the so called land encroaches, or saved the Silent Valley. I want better roads, Sorry, I want roads, Sorry again, I want flat surfaces first, then we shall think about roads and dream about better things like that! Roads are the basic lifeline of an economy, Mr Achu. You better quit and stay at home watch some tv and retire and read some books and die gracefully. YOU ARE TOO OLD FOR THIS JOB!

One day all the major users of this National Highway No. 47 (NH 47) should go on a strike or stop coming to Kerala altogether. We Kerlites will suffer a lot, since about 80% of what we eat comes from the other side of the state border.

On one final note, anyone planning to come to Kerala anytime soon, please catch a Train or a flight, or even rent a boat to Cochin, But please stay off the roads of Kerala. Err, why did I say roads? Keeps off those surfaces which the Govt. Of Kerala calls “National Highways”

The issue is in the psyche of the Keralites staying in Kerala, I mean look at them, they do not react. I was just pondering about the state of roads along Magalore Udipi stretch. The people out here in fact with all party support they had launched a full block. The result, action will be implemented withing one month. Evevry where in Karnataka, road works are nearin end, especially in Major cities.
Kerala has gone to dogs. We cannot aspire even to take name of GOD. God is busy treating the poor at Somalia. I mean what should we make out.
Nobody Reacts! Everything works out quite normally! Sick!
The socalled Govt employess who is the main work force of Kerala is hardly angry or for that matter bothered.
Its surprising that Keralites blame the city culture, but I must add here that the social fabric of every Kerala town is worst than Islamabad!

  8. Read about the roads in Kerala.I had been in and out and always preferred the drive.Believe me,the road from Bangalore via Palakkad to Trivandrum has vastly improved.Do not take other roads. If one considers this the NH,I think the Government has failed miserably.I am sure that the people in Kerala are paying the road tax without any delay.Try the road from Trivandrum via Nagercoil to Bangalore and you will find that you will prefer the roads in Kerala. The Govcernment of Tamil Nad had been catching hold of all private buses plying through Palakkad -the reason being that taxes have not been paid by the private carriers -and they have imposed this during the time when the Malayalees were trying to get home during Christmas. All the private buses except for a couple of them were travelling through the Mysore route.Mr.Achuthanandan is not the right person to be blamed.

  9. […] riding my bike all the way totally stupid according to most of my friends considering the state of roads in Kerala. Here is what I travelled the distance […]

  10. its really bad to have suuch raods better we dont have them
these people are collecting taxes and using it for themselves ,years have passed since i have seen a proper raod tarring in earlier day the raods were maintained at regular intervals but now we have swimming pooles in roads ,i think they should declare it as rain water harvesting ,recently i found a report that pwd reported to honble high court that roads couldnt be maintained due to weather conditions but i want to clarify that there are countries where we have worst climate conditions but see the raods there ,
i dont know y is it like this ,dont destroy our state like this

  11. Well you can have roads as good between Bangalore and Salem and end up paying 200 rupees on just toll or shut the fcuk up and get out of the state.
