What is Twitter?

It took me quite a while to find out what twitter is all about. Too long in fact. I was once again late to the party as it was with blogging 🙂 These days I try to be active in twitter and find that its fun to know about people you know in a more personal and informal way. More than that, its supposed to be a marketing meduim that social media gurus are talking about, and a medium to get live reviews of people using your service or products.

Anyways, what is twitter? is a question that I get everyday these days. Twitter means something to everyone. For me, its a huge public chat room combined with people answering the simple question “What are you doing?”. You can interact with huge companies like Yahoo!(@yahoo), Dell(@dell) and ton other individuals. Twitter is one of the first places where breaking news is reported by people like you and me from groud zero. Mumbai Attacks, Hudson Crash and many others were reported accuratly and quickly by twitter users.

Watch the video Twitter in plain english for a basic and awesome explanation.

For webmasters, its godsend. If one of your blog posts go viral, it will be visited by ton of new visitors expanding your brand reach and followings.

For individuals, let your friends across the world know what you are upto and find out if your boss like gardening or your ex-boyfriend still cares about his pet cobra 😉

For Corporates, find out what your clients think about your brand, service or products.

But being the person who loves to dwell in the supernatural and sub-conscious, I am interested in analysing the data millions of users put into twitter everyday. Its like a mind dump of emotions, feelings and opinions and thoughts. Scary as it is, twitter might soon be able to predict how much time on average it takes to get over a breakup or how people react to situations and all that based on real inputs across the globe.

Google is a search engine, Twitter is more like a emotion/thoughtsearch  engine. Current news, thoughts and updated information and emotions by the minute can be found on twitter, better than any other place.

Follow me if you are on twitter and put in your profile names in comments so that I can do the same for you too. Looking forward to know about you guys more personally 🙂
